We are hosting Virtual Learning Conferences at the Senior School from 4:00–8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 1st and Thursday, April 3rd. We are prioritizing these conferences for students who may be in need of mid-year interventions, require follow-up on previous feedback, or need access to new information that teachers and families should connect on. Please keep this in mind when you consider requesting meetings, particularly as we often have more requests than available appointments.
Additional Considerations:
Students are warmly invited to participate in the conversations, and should simply join their parent/guardian online at the scheduled appointments.
These appointments are for classroom-based conversations. Please only book appointments with teachers your child has this year and not for other purposes (i.e. Personal Counselling, Head of Grade, University Counselling, etc).
Accessing The Booking Site:
Sign up is available from Wednesday, March 12th at 10:00 am to Friday, March 14th at 4:00 pm, using the "School Appointments" button posted on the School Portal, or via the direct link HERE.
Families are permitted to book up to four appointment slots per child.
Appointments are for eight-minute slots. All appointments will be virtual on Google Meet.
Teachers are available for a range of times on Tuesday, April 1st and Thursday, April 3rd. Please check their individual calendars.
You can see which appointments you have instantly when booking. Additionally, you will receive a reminder email of your schedule on the afternoon of Monday, March 31st via the email address you provided us.
Please look for an email from noreply@stgeorges.bc.ca with the following subject line: “School Appointments Reminder Email.”
Flex Day Recap — Thursday, March 6
This month’s Flex Day brought the beautiful spring weather we have been anticipating.
The Grade 8s engaged in an ADST Deep Dive in the morning, splitting into groups to participate in different activities. These included a laser cutting session, robotics, building popsicle catapults, and building mini sticks in the woodworking shop! In the afternoon, they had Career Life Education activities.
The Grade 9s had a morning deep dive in social studies, and in the afternoon they focused on career education activities.
The Grade 10s participated in a Sea to Sky preparatory session, which included Juan de Fuca, Broken Island kayaking, canoeing, and more. This was followed by Advisory and then University Counselling and Career Life Education in the afternoon.
The Grade 11s continued their off-campus community placements. Some students went to various elementary schools to mentor and participate in activities with the children, including our very own Junior school! Students also went to Quest Food Exchange, a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing food insecurity issues in local communities. Placements also included travelling to Crofton Manor Seniors’ Home to visit with seniors and Salvation Army Harbour Light Shelter. In the afternoon, they had Career Life Education and University Counselling.
Last but not least, the Grade 12s had Career Life Education Sessions in the morning and worked on their toolkits and Capstone Projects in the afternoon.
We look forward to another Flex Day in April!
Textile Club — Term 2 Pyjama Project
Students in the Textile Club have been busy exploring the art of sewing and needle felting. Under the guidance of teacher sponsors Ms. Tanya Peters and Ms. Antonia San Martin, students have been learning a variety of textile techniques, including sewing machine setup, stitching methods, fabric cutting, and pattern reading.
This term, the club focused on creating pyjama pants, with students adding their own unique flair to their projects. In addition to mastering sewing skills, many students enjoyed experimenting with needle felting and producing unique and creative pieces. It was a rewarding experience for all as students developed their craftsmanship and expressed their creativity through their completed projects.
Saints Book Club — Round 2 Recap
On February 26th, students from Grades 8–12 gathered to discuss the novel There are Rivers in the Sky by Turkish author Elif Shafak. The novel spans several centuries, countries, languages, and cultures, and considers how water brings people together. If you are interested in previewing our discussion to see what we do at Book Club, please visit our agenda here!
All students and staff are invited to take part in the last Book Club of the year, which will take place after the May long weekend. The Saints Book Club meets three times each year and is open to everyone! We always choose novels that have been published in the last two years. Our last book is Playground by Richard Powers.
To join us, please acquire a copy of the book (we encourage students to shop at local bookstores if possible), and stay tuned for the date announcement.
The Winter Season is wrapping up! Two Provincial Banners were brought home last week with the Ski Team and the Curling Team! Only the Varsity Basketball Team and our four CSSHL Hockey Teams are still in action, looking for strong finishes at their Provincial and League Championship Tournaments.
