NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
of
ST. GEORGE’S PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION

WHEN: Please note that the Annual General Meeting of the St. George’s Parents’ Association (SGPA) will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 9:00 am in McLean Hall at the Senior School.

WHO: All parents and guardians are members of the SPGA and are encouraged to attend.

HOW: Please RSVP here if you plan to attend.

AGENDA: The Annual General Meeting will be held for the following purposes: to receive the report of the directors; to review the audited financial statements of the SGPA for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2022, together with the report of the auditors; to appoint auditors and to authorize the directors to fix their remuneration; to elect directors for the ensuing year; and to transact on other business that may properly come before the meeting.

The St. George’s Parents' Association (SGPA) includes all parents and guardians of boys attending the School.

The SGPA Board works on behalf of the St. George’s Community to facilitate and coordinate parent engagement. Through its many events, its role is to create a vibrant community where parents participate through volunteering their time and talent for the betterment of our boys, the School, and parents themselves.

As a wonderful by-product of many SGPA events, substantial funds are raised to support the School. Important examples of the impact of SGPA fundraising efforts include:
  • support for the Head of School’s Fund, which allows for immediate financial intervention for Saints families experiencing loss or difficulty; and
  • enhancement of programs with new equipment and/or amenities

What we do...

Saints Fair

The 2022 Saints Fair was wonderful! While we worried that it would be a soggy affair, the SGPA 's connections at the Farmer's Almanac came through with a beautiful country-themed day.

Head Convenors Elizabeth Bell and Emily Lazare, working with Fair Coordinator Andrea Maru and hundreds of volunteers, made it all happen. Thank you so much for all your work!

Want to relive May 7th? Photography Booth Convenor Lori Chalk and her band of parent volunteers are happy to help!

BoyOBoy Coffee Talk Series

BoyOBoy is a parent education speaker series, run by the SGPA in partnership with the School. The goal of this series is to provide insight and generate conversations within our community on various topics. Sessions are conducted as panel discussions and include a featured expert along with faculty members and a parent Q&A section.

Saints Spirit Run

This 4.5 km run is led by Grade 12 students. The route begins at the Junior School, proceeds through Pacific Spirit Park, with participants crossing the finish line back in front of the Junior School. Volunteer cheer squads line the route making this a loud and “spirited” event. Each participant is awarded a student-designed medal. The event welcomes all members of the Saints Community: you can walk, run, cheer, or volunteer!

Staff Appreciation

Because nothing is too good for our faculty and staff, the SGPA brought “Yoda Best” to the Junior and Senior School campuses in May. Faculty and staff enjoyed customized out-of-this-galaxy beverages and snacks from locally-owned small business, Kafka Coffee Truck. The Force (and a liberal dose of caffeine) was with us!

Grade Parent Events

Each grade at St. George's School has a creative team of parents who plan parent and student events. The Grade Parents are the social hub for each grade and the communications connector between parents and the SGPA. They organize activities and events for parents and boys and are often called upon to support teacher and School initiatives.

This year, we heard about fun online events where the community cooked, saw magic shows, were provided out-of-the-box tutorials, and so much more. We are so grateful to these extended members of the SGPA for all their work.

...and more!

Wheel-By Welcome
When you can’t host the traditional Welcome Back BBQ, greet new parents with a Wheel-by Welcome! New parents to both the Junior and Senior Schools were met by SGPA Grade Parents bearing gifts on Orientation Day. While the new boys went inside to learn about their teachers and classrooms, enthusiastic Grade Parents gave out mugs, information, and an early indication of the vibrant community these new families were joining.

Used Uniform Sales
When your son loses his tie (again!), do not lose heart. The SGPA supports the environment and SGPA events through regular used uniform sales.

Saints Soirée
Sometimes you just need to dance — and mingle, and meet new people. We look forward to being able to bring back the Soirée when circumstances make it possible.
