Black History Month is an opportunity to commemorate the diverse stories, accomplishments, and contributions of Black people throughout history.
The theme this year, Mosaic, highlights the diaspora of Black history and culture and how every individual experience, collectively, forms a strong and dynamic community.
These events are an opportunity to learn, honour, and celebrate the richness of Black history and a diverse culture.

Curling
The Curling Team had a fantastic couple of days at the Bill Mills Bonspiel at the Port Moody Curling Club last week, with five Saints teams in action, three in the advanced division and two in the intermediate. The Varsity Team also competed this week at the Regional Zone Championships, which were held at Marpole Curling Club, and were looking to punch their ticket to defend their Provincial Championships, which will be held this year in Kimberley, BC at the end of the month. Keep an eye on the Saints Athletics Instagram for updates on their qualification.
Rowing
The Rowing Team’s annual Beat The Beast Competition took place this weekend on campus, with hundreds of rowers from across BC giving their all on the ergs in Dixon Gym in a variety of races. This year was the second year in a row with record-setting attendance at Beat The Beast!
This could not have happened without the incredible support from the boys (those competing and those volunteering), parents, and our colleagues. In particular, our Convenors and Operations volunteers who helped plan and execute the day:
Jen Lamont and Daan Maijer
Chris L. '25 and Chris L. '25
Michael Lee
Audrey and Chris Sjoholm
Jody Thompson
Corinne Kepper
Nancy Fu
Ryan Tung
We continued last year's Sprint Showdowns to make the afternoon more exciting and capped the day off with Relays before announcing our first-ever Beat the Beast team championship. The points championship went to Vancouver Rowing Club, and the efficiency championship went to the SFU Rowing Team.
This was also a year with record Alumni attendance, both as coaches and athletes! Ian M. '21 and Kevin C. '14 raced throughout the day, and we had Angus R. '02, Danny M. '05, Fraser M. '02, Will M. '09, and Mike W. '04 all join in later for relays.
Special shout-out to Mr. Roberts and the Junior Rugby Boys for joining in on racing throughout the day!
Altogether, this was the best and biggest Beat The Beast in memory, which bodes very well for our team and community looking ahead to the spring season.
Sport Climbing
On Saturday, February 8th, the team heads to the Hive PoCo (Port Coquitlam). On Tuesday, February 11th, the squad will get some alternative training in at the Hive Heights for a Top Rope primer before they head to their Top Rope competition set for Tuesday, February 18th at Brentwood.
