2015 - Jason McLean '91

Jason McLean was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the McLean Group of Companies in 2010 following eight years in various senior roles.  He is also CEO of Vancouver Film Studios and Chairman of Blackcomb Aviation. The McLean Group – established in 1972 – has grown from a successful real estate investment and development firm into a thriving second-generation family business active in studio facilities (Vancouver Film Studios), production services (Pacific Backlot Services), film and television production (Gun Lake Pictures), communications (Signal Systems), construction (Harbour Landing Construction), real estate (Blanca Realty & Erinmore Management), aviation (Blackcomb Aviation), and philanthropy (the McLean McCuaig Foundation).

In addition to providing guidance and leadership to the businesses, Jason coordinates the dialogue between the family owners and management by championing strategic goals and capital decisions. Accordingly, he oversees the executive ranks and all major transactions in each of the McLean Group’s operating and investment businesses and takes a particular interest in ensuring the businesses have strong leaders who can depend on a solid financial framework.  Since 2008, he has personally lead over $250 million in financing for acquisitions and growth.

Prior to joining the McLean Group, Jason worked as Special Assistant in the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada from 2000-2002.  A television show called “Advance Man” is currently in development by Gun lake Pictures and is loosely based on Jason’s adventures during this time.

Jason is a graduate of the University of British Columbia (LLB, 1999) and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2000 after articling with Stikeman Elliot in Vancouver. He is a certified member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) and a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Owner President Management Program, (OPM, 2010).
Jason gives his time to multiple boards and community organizations and in 2009 was the recipient of a Top 40 Under 40 Award from Business in Vancouver. He currently serves as Vice Chair (and incoming Chair) of the board of the Vancouver Foundation, Canada’s largest community foundation. He recently served on the UBC Board of Governors where he chaired the Governance Committee and is a past board member of the Vancouver Police Boards where he chaired the Finance Committee. In 2014, Jason, along with his brother Sacha, was recognized by Ernst & Young for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award Pacific in the category of Entertainment and Hospitality. Jason is also a Governor of the Vancouver Board of Trade, where he served in 2010/11 as the youngest Chair in the Board’s history.

Jason lives in Vancouver with his wife AJ and their daughter Lucy.  His brother and business partner Sacha is also a graduate of St. George’s (1993).
