Jake Kerr is one of Canada's most distinguished citizens. He is the Managing Partner of Lignum Forest Products LLP, a wood products trading and distribution company, and Chairman of Lignum Investments Ltd., a privately-held investment company.
Mr. Kerr was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lignum Ltd., one of Canada's largest private forest products company founded by Leslie J. Kerr in 1946. Lignum operated sawmill facilities in the Cariboo and had 32 building material distribution locations around North America.
Mr. Kerr was educated at the University of British Columbia and at the University of California at Berkeley where he received his MBA degree in Economics and Finance. In October 2000, he received an honorary Doctorate of Laws degree from Simon Fraser University. He is a recipient of the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia.
A very strong supporter of the arts, he was appointed the founding Chancellor of Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
In addition to his passion for the arts, Mr. Kerr has a great love of baseball. He is the co-owner and Managing Director of Vancouver Professional Baseball LLP.
He has been active on numerous community and charitable boards. He is a member of the Chief Executive Organization and Past Chairman of the International and BC Chapters of the Young Presidents' Organization.
Mr. Kerr currently is the Chair of the Vancouver Foundation, the largest of Canada's 160 community foundations and with over $660 million under management. He also is a director of the Bank of Nova Scotia and the Louisiana-Pacific Corporation.
In addition, he is Past Chair of the Canadian Forest Industries Council, the BC Softwood Lumber Trade Council and the Council of Forest Industries of British Columbia. He was also Chief Negotiator for Canada in the 1996 softwood lumber negotiations. Mr. Kerr is a former Director of Bombardier Inc., Cominco, the Bank of British Columbia, BC Rail, Pacific Forest Products, Trans Mountain Pipelines Corporation, and Forest Renewal British Columbia. He was also Co-Chair of the BC Unity Panel.
