MeetTheTeacher

SAVE THE DATE:

Meet The Teacher Night On Wednesday, September 17

We look forward to welcoming you to meet with our teachers, advisors, and program leads on the evening of Wednesday, September 17th. This will be an “on campus only” event, and further details will be provided in next week’s eNews.

For those who are new to our community, this evening is an interactive “day in the life" event, where you will follow your child’s Day 1 and Day 2 schedule. Each “class” will be ten minutes long and will serve as an introduction to the teacher and to the course. Our 1:1 Learning Conferences to discuss individual students will take place later in the fall.

For any questions regarding Meet The Teacher Night, please contact Mr. Chris Vytasek, Vice Principal of Academics, via email at: [email protected].

Athletics Updates

Welcome Back!

The Athletics Office has moved! We are now in Room 219 – next door to the Outdoor Ed. Office and Classroom. Please drop by to introduce yourself and say “Hi!”(Once construction has finished!)

The new and expanded Fitness Centre is almost ready to open! The School has renovated four science rooms — 214, 215, 216, and 217. Once we have finished installing new signage and ensuring all the new equipment is in place and ready to go, we’ll let you all know.

The new Fitness Centre space is sectioned into a Cardio area (closest to Garcia Field), a Weights area (the middle, large room), and a mobility area for stretching and rolling out (closest to the old Saints Café). The old Fitness Centre, now called The Studio, on the first floor, is almost ready to be used by PHE classes, Pool user groups, and other groups. No weights or equipment will be available in this space.

Term 1 Competitive Sports
Our four CSSHL Hockey Teams will begin their on-ice (at UBC) and Off-Ice Training Sessions in the coming days, with games scheduled. You can follow all our teams at the CSSL Scoreboard here.

Rowing
Pre-season clean-up at the Boathouse in Richmond and On-Water Sessions on the mighty Fraser River have been taking place this week. Please note: Grade 8s are not eligible to participate in Term 1. Please reach out to Coach Brent Duncan, Head of Rowing, for more information.

Rugby
As we enter the 93rd year of Rugby at St. George’s School, the passion for the game remains as strong as ever. Rugby has always been more than a sport here — it’s a tradition. Our founding Headmasters, the Harker brothers, brought the game with them from the renowned Rugby School in England, believing it to be the perfect way to build character, teamwork, and resilience.

Today, those same values remain at the heart of our program. Rugby at St. George’s School isn’t just about winning matches; it’s about developing young men who embody our Core Values both on and off the field. Best of all, everyone is welcome — there are no tryouts, and there’s a place for every player who commits to the team.

Soccer
Once again, we’ll be fielding three teams this year. The 1st XI will compete in the LMISSA Senior League, and the 2nd XI and Grade XI. Ten teams will compete in the GVISAA Senior League. Schedules are being confirmed this weekend. Our 1st XI Coach and veteran Head of Soccer, Mr. Tweedle, has already sent an email to all Grade 10, 11, and 12 students.

Important Reminder: For those of you who have not signed up in June, indicating your interest in playing Soccer this year and which team you plan to try out for, please fill out this form here.

Volleyball
Just like our other Term 1 Sports, Volleyball is getting an early start on team tryouts! Our Senior Volleyball Team (Grade 11 and 12s) will begin tryouts in Dixon and Wallace Gyms on September 4th, September 5th, and September 8th from 3:30–5:00 pm, gearing up for their first tournament on September 12th! Our
Junior Volleyball Team (Grade 10s only) will hold their tryouts on September 8th, September 9th, and September 10th after school. Please complete this form if you would like to join the tryouts!

Swimming
Our Swim Team will host its first on-deck meeting, followed by a light swim on September 4th and 5th. Students who wish to join the team must attend one of the two sessions!

Cross Country Running
Tryout dates to be confirmed next week! Please check the announcement screens around the school for updates.
