RIGG SCHOLARSHIP
St. George's Art Departments:
Drama, Visual Arts, & Music

PHILIP RIGG
Rigg Scholarships

Philip Rigg
1958–1974

During his years as a student at St. George's School, Philip proved himself a scholar, athlete, and artist of considerable merit, much to the high regard of his classmates and teachers. He maintained credible achievement in the “A” class while participating fully in the Athletics Program of the School, winning both the Under 14 and Under 16 Aggregate Trophies, the latter even as he struggled with the disease that led to his death just three months later. Philip had already excelled in Archery, winning the Canadian Junior Archery Championship in 1972. Despite these attainments, he was a quiet, humble person with a hint of a smile when he spoke. These aspects of his personality dominated his work in the Fine Arts. His pottery was some of the finest done in the School and as with his painting and drawing, was of quality such that future recipients of a Rigg Scholarship could consider such recognition of their work an honour, indeed.

The Rigg Scholarships are named for Philip Rigg. His name and accomplishments are honoured by the scholarship established by his family and awarded every year in memory of the fine young man who died at the age of 16 in 1974.

Honourary Rigg Scholars are named during their Grade 12 year for their demonstration of achievement, leadership, dedication, and commitment.

The Honourary Rigg Scholars for the 2024-2025 school year are:

Visual Arts
Raymond F. ‘25
Rhett C. ‘25
Odin O. ‘25

Theatre Arts
Jackson B. ‘25
Isaiah Y. ‘25
Anar D. ‘25
Ricky Y. ‘25
Jerry D. ‘25
William S. ‘25
Dan X. ‘25
Joven H. ‘25

Music
Edward D. ‘25
Matthew O. ‘25
Owen W. ‘25
Samuel Y. ‘25
Eddy Z. ‘25

RIGG SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
St. George's Art Departments: Drama, Visual Arts, & Music

A Rigg Scholarship recognizes students for not only exemplary achievement in their field, be it Music, Drama, or Visual Arts, but also their passion, dedication, and commitment to their art form.

Leadership and mentoring younger students, in particular, is a trait embodied in being chosen as a Rigg Scholar, to be excellent in your field is not enough, one must share and pass on their skill to the next generation.

It is the combination of these skills, which sets Rigg Scholars apart from their peers.

The process of attaining a Rigg scholarship is exciting and highly rewarding in itself, so we encourage you to embrace this opportunity.

Rowing
Beat The Beast is taking place this weekend on campus! This is the signature Indoor Rowing Competition, which traditionally takes place in February. Hundreds of rowers from across BC convene in Dixon Gym to compete in a variety of races. The most competitive athletes from 2,000 m races progress to Sprint Showdowns, a series of 500m sprints at the end of the day, in addition to the team relay events. At the end of racing, two championships will be awarded to the team with the most overall points and the team with the most efficiency, which is an exciting team component to this regatta!

We'd love to welcome as much of the St. George's community as possible. While most of our boys will have the bulk of their racing from 10:00 am–1:00 pm, the most exciting races will take place from 2:00–3:30 pm.

Come out, wear Saints colours, and feel the excitement of this unique event! Please reach out to Coach Duncan at: bduncan@stgeorges.bc.ca or Coach Jess at: jdavis@stgeorges.bc.ca if you have any questions.

Keep an eye on the Saints Rowing Instagram for updates!
