Drama 11: BC Drama Festival Bound
On Friday, January 17th Mr. Donnici’s Drama 11 class performed their one-act play, The Killers at the Vancouver Zone Festival. Based on the merits of their performance, they were selected to perform at the province-wide BC Drama Festival! The production was also awarded for Outstanding Set Design: a result of the hard work and creativity of our Theatre Technical Coordinator, Mr. Zechner. Adapted by Bryan Harnetiaux from Ernest Hemmingway’s classic short story, The Killers is a stark, noir drama about two hitmen sent to assassinate a down-and-out boxer, and the innocent people who are caught in their way. Saints Players Theatre Company Presents:
The NeverEnding Story
In November, Saints Players Theatre Company held auditions and cast its middle school production of The NeverEnding Story on stage from April 10th–12th at 7:00 pm. After a successful December cast gathering, rehearsals are now in full swing as the actors are ready to dive into the new year with energy and dedication.
This production marks an exciting milestone for the Saints Players Theatre Company as it is helmed by first-time Saints Players Director Ms. Amanda Kennedy. A beloved and highly skilled member of the company, Ms. Kennedy has previously lent her expertise as an acting and intimacy coach to many Saints Players productions. Now, she takes the reins to direct a story that holds a special place in her heart, inspired by the nostalgia of the classic 1980s film adaptation. Ms. Kennedy’s enthusiasm, creativity, and passion for storytelling are evident in every aspect of her leadership, and the Theatre Arts Department is thrilled to see her bring her considerable talents to the forefront. Having directed numerous productions at her previous school, Ms. Kennedy’s debut as a Saints Players director is eagerly anticipated by all.
Joining the team is another invaluable new addition: Mr. Scott Zechner, who is stepping in as Technical Director while Mr. Marcus Stusek is on paternity leave. With extensive experience and expertise, Mr. Zechner is embracing the challenge of crafting the enchanting and imaginative world of The NeverEnding Story — his vision and skill promise to elevate the production’s visual storytelling to extraordinary heights.
Mr. Jamie Donnici is also lending his invaluable support to the production, stepping in wherever needed to ensure its success. A dedicated and tenured member of the Saints Players Theatre Company community, Mr. Donnici’s versatility and willingness to assist in any capacity have made him an indispensable part of the team.
The students are equally enthusiastic about bringing this beloved tale to life. Rehearsals are progressing wonderfully, and the cast is eager to share this magical adventure with the community. Stay tuned for more updates.
