Flex Day Schedule — Thursday, May 23
The Grade 8 and 9s were combined in the morning as they watched theatre productions put on by Grade 10s. In the afternoon, the Grade 8s divided into their Advisory Groups to make boats and raced them in the pool! They also wrote letters to their Grade 12 selves, which they will open before they graduate in 2028. The afternoon session for the Grade 9s consisted of a scavenger hunt in Pacific Spirit Park, and a film screening of all their WorkSafeBC videos they made in April.
The Grade 10 morning was spent in CLE and University Counselling. They learned more about the next two years of high school and the paths towards post-secondary education. They also wrote their letters to their Grade 12 selves, as they missed the opportunity to do so in Grade 8. In the afternoon, Mr. Paul took the whole grade to Dunbar Theatre where they watched a private screening of Remember The Titans to celebrate the end of the school year.
The Grade 11s wrapped up their Community Placements by doing fun activities with their buddies from other schools. Many groups travelled to the beach or a nearby park to spend one last morning with their buddies and play games. In the afternoon, they had a University Counselling session and learned about writing application essays. It was backed with a CLC class where they reflected on their Flex Days throughout the year and offered suggestions on how to make it better for next year’s grade.
For Grade 12 Flex Day, students had one session of CLC throughout the day, and two toolkits. The CLC session was to prepare their Capstone presentations in early June. One of the toolkits was led by NourishEducation, who are two Saints parents who teach students about nutrition. Their toolkit was centred around preparing for university by fuelling their bodies with the best types of food. Students learned how to make healthy smoothies and energy bites that were quick and easy to prepare. Another toolkit was a presentation on Naloxone and how to respond to a drug overdose, something students may find scary but could encounter in University.
