Campus Master Plan Update

October 2013
St. George's School hopes to submit a rezoning application to the City of Vancouver for the Senior School campus in November 2013. As you will recall, for close to two years, we have been working on the development of a Campus Master Plan providing us with a big picture, high level view of how both the Junior and Senior School campuses should evolve in the coming years and decades. Our over-riding goal is to ensure that we have the facilities that will allow us to advance our Mission by delivering a uniquely boy-centred approach to teaching and learning.

The Campus Master Plan calls for the renovation of the Junior School's heritage building and the eventual construction of a new wing, replacing the additions on the back of the building in the 1950s and 1970s. At the Senior School, we anticipate the construction of two new academic buildings where most of our classrooms will be located, as well as later phases carrying out selective demolition in the existing building, and the construction of a new athletic complex. We also envision the eventual relocation of boarding to the Senior School campus.

Although the Board has adopted the Campus Master Plan in principle, it has not yet decided on phasing or on which project(s) should be undertaken first. Indeed, I am planning to present the Board with a comprehensive proposal at its December meeting. In the meantime, however, we have decided to move forward with a rezoning application for the Senior School campus, as this process could take a year or more; once rezoning approval has been obtained, there will be no time restriction as to when construction should commence. By comparison, the development of the Junior School campus is a less complex process that will not require rezoning.
