Senior School Updates — December 5, 2025

Senior School Hamper Items: Due December 9–11
Drop-Off In Room 210 In The Old Senior School Building

Last Tuesday, your sons were assigned an itemized list of non-perishable food items that they are responsible for bringing to the Senior School to contribute to this year’s Hamper Drive. All Senior School students are encouraged to complete the shopping themselves as part of a collective effort. Their contributions will be part of a total of close to 400 hampers created by the entire Senior School student body.

Please note that next week will be the last chance for all Senior students to provide their non-perishable items so they can be included in this year's Hamper Drive donation. Students should bring their requested items between December 9th–11th and drop them off in Room 210 in the Old Senior School Building. Thank you for your support of the Hamper Drive!

Senior School Ornament Decoration
December 8-12 | Princeps Hall

Last week, the Senior School kicked off this year’s Hamper Drive with the Inaugural Tree Lighting Ceremony. During our Whole School Assembly, a festive tree was lit in Princeps Hall for all to enjoy, accompanied by a wonderful performance from our very own Junior School Choir. Senior School students have the opportunity to design and decorate our community tree with ornaments representing the entire Senior School community until Friday, December 12th. Then they will be showcased during our Community Day on December 14th in Princeps Hall!

Important Information Regarding December Progress Reports

Senior School students and families will receive a formal Progress Report the week of December 15th, including grades, comments, and work habits for their courses, as well as feedback from the collection of educators that work with and care for each student: Advisors, Co-Curricular Coaches, Teachers, and their Head of Grade.

Parents and students will be notified via email when the Progress Reports have been posted on the School Portal during the week of December 15th–19th

If you do not receive the email during this week, please contact the Communications Team at: [email protected].

If you or your child believes there is an error in the Progress Report, please contact the teacher directly. For our Grade 12 families and students, please also CC your University Counsellor as well on any of those enquiries.

Our next Progress Reports will be issued in March, and the next Parent-Teacher Learning Conferences will be held in April.

Survey Says...
Results From The Senior School Well-Being Survey

On October 14th and 21st, St. George’s Senior School administered its first internal Well-Being Survey with over 731 responses. Grounded in the University of Oxford’s School Life Satisfaction framework, the survey measured students’ subjective perceptions of their general health, sense of community, access to school resources, and the skills necessary for success. The survey, featuring 37 questions, also invited students to share their thoughts on improvements they would like to see.

What did our students say about their student well-being experience?

Our Strengths
  • Students report being highly physically active and having abundant opportunities to engage in movement.
  • Students indicate they have a strong, trusted relationship with at least one peer.
  • Students report developing a strong, trusting relationship with their advisor.
  • Students indicate they have a trusted relationship with at least two adults in the school community.
  • Students report that St. George’s School provides a safe and supportive learning environment.

Our Opportunities
  • Students report comparatively low levels of self-esteem.
  • Students express a desire for more intentional community-building, particularly within the Wing System.
  • Students report feeling overwhelmed by their commitments and often don’t have enough time for personal hobbies or interests.
  • Students express interest in reimagining common spaces in the Brown and Tang Buildings.
  • Students report that sleep and breakfast habits decline from Grade 8 through Grade 12.

How Do We Measure Success
Overall school life satisfaction measured on a 1–10 Likert scale served as our key performance indicator. For more context, students typically report an average life-satisfaction score of 7.3 out of 10. St. George’s Students scored as follows:

This survey has allowed us to hear directly from our students and illustrate what is working and point us to areas to continuously improve upon. Moving forward on the Well-Being Survey, results will be shared with students at our December 12th Assembly and with the SGPA at a later date. Our ultimate goal is to also ensure we receive input from students and parents throughout this well-being journey. We will soon extend invites to interested students and parents to help us join volunteer groups tasked with imagining and designing well-being initiatives that can meaningfully enhance the experience of every St. George’s student.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at: [email protected].

Thank you for your continued support of our initiatives, and all the best this holiday season!

Athletics Updates

CSSHL Hockey
It’s another exciting week for the Saints Hockey Program as our teams continue to build momentum through December. Effort levels have been high across all age groups, with the boys pushing through the final stretch of the year with focus and determination. The U15 Prep Team is currently competing in the Canadian Crown Tournament (December 4–7), keeping the program in the spotlight with strong performances and high-level play. Looking ahead, the U15 Varsity squad travels to Delta next Friday, December 13th, for a matchup at Planet Ice. The puck drop is at 12:30 pm, and the team will look to translate their strong practice habits into game-day execution. The U17 Prep Team is also on the road to Delta on December 13th for a 3:00 pm faceoff, aiming to build on their steady progress and competitive play. It’s a busy stretch for the U18 Prep Team, who open their weekend on Friday, December 13th at Father Bauer Arena with a 5:15 pm puck drop against Wenatchee. They’re back in action the following morning at Thunderbird Arena for a 10:45 am rematch. Best of luck to all our teams this weekend as they continue to compete, train, and represent the Saints Hockey Program with pride!

Basketball

It’s been fantastic to see our Basketball Program in full swing, with all teams now on court and settling into the rhythm of the season. The Varsity Team is currently in the Tsumura Basketball Invitational at the LEC. They lost their opening match and then won their second match. They also have games on Friday & Saturday.

We host a home game series on Tuesday, December 9th when we welcome Semiahmoo Secondary, starting at 3:00 pm and running right through until our Varsity squad tips off at 7:30 pm. It’s a great afternoon and evening of Saints Basketball. Come along and support our boys on their home court. Home games are available for free on our HUDL Fan Page.

The Varsity Team will then back it up later in the week, heading to the No Regrets Tournament on the Northshore from December 11th–13th, where they’ll take on some strong competition and continue to build on their early-season winning form.

Rowing
All Rowing Squads are now in full training rotation, building consistency and sharpening their technical work as the season progresses. There’s been a strong sense of momentum across the boathouse, with crews showing steady improvement in both fitness and form. The program as a whole is tracking well, and the weeks ahead look promising as all teams continue preparing for the upcoming competition phase.

Ski & Snowboard
With winter quickly approaching, our Ski & Snowboard athletes are gearing up for another exciting season on the mountains. Team tryouts will take place on December 9th on Blackcomb Mountain, where athletes will have the chance to showcase their skills and earn their place on the squad. Good luck to our boys as they hit the powder and kick off the season ahead!

Sport Climbing
Our Sport Climbing Team started their training this week, building on last Thursday’s introductory event, where students had the chance to get on the wall and challenge themselves on a variety of routes. With regular sessions now underway, the team is set for an exciting year of growth!

Table Tennis
Tryouts have officially wrapped up, and training is now underway in the Lower Great Hall. Students can contact Coach Schwandt for any further information or questions about the season ahead.

Curling
With tryouts complete, Curling Training Sessions are now in full swing. Athletes can reach out to Coach Chapman or Coach Moens for additional details or support.

Socials
Don’t forget to follow the Saints Athletics IG account as we post frequently, and it’s a great way to learn about recent scores and upcoming games! Go Saints go!
