Senior School Updates – November 8, 2024



Important Note About Remembrance Day
On Monday, November 11: Senior School Full Attendance Required

Remembrance Day is an important day on the School’s calendar. The Senior School will be honouring this day through a ceremony attended by faculty, staff, and students, taking place on Monday, November 11th from 10:30–11:30 am in Dixon Gym. The community (parents, alumni, and community at large) is invited to join this special ceremony either on campus or via livestream.
 
All Senior School students are required to be in attendance. Students should arrive at the School at 9:30 am in their #1 School Uniform and report directly to their Advisory classroom. Attendance is mandatory and will be taken in Advisory Group. Donations to the Poppy Fund will be collected, and poppies will be distributed. Students will be dismissed immediately following the Service at approximately 11:30 am.





Art Portfolio Day — Tuesday, November 19

This year, the Arts Department, in partnership with the University Counselling Department, is excited to host Art Portfolio Day on Tuesday, November 19th. Our top Grade 11 and 12 Visual Arts students have been diligently working in the Portfolio Club since last year, building a strong body of work to present to a range of prestigious Arts colleges and universities. In addition, we’re thrilled to welcome 10 students from Byng Arts, with whom we’ve collaborated for over 15 years.






Athletics Updates

As we head into the Fall Term Break, this week’s issue will highlight what is on the schedule as we return to school the week of November 18th. Hockey, Volleyball, Swimming, and Basketball will also be in action over the break, and those details are also included below! We hope everyone has an excellent week away. We look forward to a strong close to the fall term of Athletics and an exciting start to the winter season upon your return.
 
Tryout Info 
Basketball — Grade 8
The Grade 8 Boys will begin the tryout process for the A and B Teams on Tuesday, November 19th at 3:30 pm. Please reach out to Coach Vidic or Coach Pauls if you have any questions regarding the tryout process.
 
CSSHL Hockey
U15 AAA
The U15 AAA Team has some time away from game action over the break but looks forward to hosting a trio of games on the weekend of November 22nd. They will play Delta Black on Friday, November 22nd at 8:30 pm at Protrans Arena, PCHA on Saturday, November 23rd at 5:15 pm at Father Bauer, and PCHA again on Sunday, November 24th at 10:45 am at Thunderbird Arena. 
 
U15 Prep
The U15 Prep Team will host BWC at Thunderbird Arena on Sunday, November 10th at 10:445 am. The team will then travel to Burnaby for the Pat Quinn Classic Tournament from November 14th-17th. The following weekend, they will travel to Victoria for the Island Showcase with games scheduled against PCHA, BWC, and Shawnigan from November 22nd–24th. 
 
U17 Prep
The U17 Prep Team will host Coeur d’Alene at Father Bauer Arena on Saturday, November 9th at 5:15 pm. On November 15th, the team will head to the North Shore Winter Club to take on North Shore at 12:30 pm. The team will host RINK Kelowna the following day at 5:15 pm at Father Bauer Arena. On Monday, November 18th, the boys will travel to Delta Planet Ice to take on Delta at 1:15 pm. The weekend of November 22nd, the team will travel to Penticton for the OHA Showcase, with matchups and game times to be determined. 
 
U18 Prep
The U18 Prep Team will be in action on Sunday, November 17th when they will host BWC at Thunderbird Arena at 10:45 am. Then they will head to the North Shore the following day for a 1:30 pm Puck Drop at North Shore Winter Club. Then on Sunday, November 24th, the boys will host Shawnigan Lake School at Father Bauer Arena at 4:30 pm.

Cross Country Running
The Junior Provincials Team, including Declan K. '27, Henry C. '28, Baron L. '28, Jack D. ‘28, Zackary N. '27, Sam M. '27, and Ian T. ‘27. weathered the rain and mud last weekend at Jericho Beach Park as they competed in the BCSS Provincial Championships. Congratulations to all runners and coaches on what was overall a fantastic showing and fall full of running!
 
Rowing
The Rowing Team was in action this past weekend at the ‘Head of the Lake’ in Seattle. The boys posted some amazing results, highlighted by the Mens U-17 8+ who finished third. The boat included Rohin D. ‘27, Markus K. ‘27, Roehm T ‘27., Felix S. ‘27, Henry L. ‘27, James W. ‘27, Rylan I. ‘27, George C. ‘27, and Ben D ‘27., and a huge shoutout to Ben M. ‘25 and Alex W. ‘25 who won the Men's Jr 2x. Rugby — Grade 8 & 9
The Grade 8s and 9s seasons have come to a close this past week with season-end celebrations held on Wednesday afternoon. It was a fall charged with development for both of these sides. Congratulations to the players and coaches on fantastic seasons. We look forward to the Spring season for the Rugby Program. 
 
Swimming
The Swim Team had a solid reset week this week to get ready for the BCSS Championships to be held November 15th and 16th at Watermania. They hosted a Prep Meet this past Wednesday after school to assist with that and training continues next week during break up until the BCSS Championships. Special congrats to Ivan S. '25 for his performances with TeamBC, the high school All-Star Team that raced the best University Teams in Western Canada last weekend at the UBC Colleges Cup. Ivan had multiple second swims, including an eighth place in the Championship Final in the 50m Breaststroke!
 
Congrats also to Preston S. '27 for also being named to the SwimBC Pacific Wave squad along with Owen Z. '29 and Tyler C. '28.

Volleyball
The Seniors were looking to punch their ticket to the Sea To Sky Zone Championships on Wednesday when they hosted Vancouver College. The boys played a fantastic game, feeding off the energy of the crowd that came out to support them, but unfortunately fell short in the fifth and final set. The team will now play in a three-team three-game set on Tuesday, November 12th at Howe Sound to try to take an alternate route to the Zone Championships. Saints will play Howe Sound at 4:00 pm and VSS at 6:30 pm.
 
The Junior boys season has come to a close after a great showing at last weekend’s tournament in Burnaby. Congratulations to the players and coaches on another great fall season of development and some outstanding results.
