Date: Thursday, December 6 Time: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm Location: Dining Hall, Junior School
The SGPA is excited to launch Socks for Smiles, in support of the Alley Outreach Project.
The Alley Outreach Project (AOP) is a community organization that has been working with the graduating class of students of St. George's School for the past eight years. The outings take students from the comfort of their daily lives to the heart of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, to help those who have fallen on tough times. By volunteering with AOP, students gain a better understanding of marginalized people in our city and help break the stigma of mental health and drug-related problems. We feel this is particularly important as Canada faces an unprecedented opioid crisis.
On December 6, 2018, we will have our first Socks for Smiles event from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm in the Junior School dining hall. In the spirit of the holidays, we invite everyone to join us for holiday tea while preparing care packages for our boys to deliver to the community in the Downtown Eastside. The one thing they all ask for is a pair of thick socks to keep them warm during the cold winter months. We will be stuffing these socks with goodies, and other little things to help spread some holiday cheer.
A couple of the Grade 11 and 12 boys who have been actively involved in this program will come to share their stories with us, and Alley Outreach Project Founder, Mark Lindsey, will also be joining us.
A drive will be started for specific items to be included in the care packages.
We hope you join us for this meaningful opportunity!
