2007 - Peter Brown '58, OBC, LLD

One of the leading figures in Canada's investment community, Peter Brown founded Canaccord Capital – then known as Canarim Investment Corp. – in 1968. Canaccord Capital is Canada's largest independent investment dealer with head office in Vancouver, BC and thirty-two offices across Canada and internationally.

Over the years, Peter has served on the boards of numerous private sector and crown corporations. Among his attainments, he is the past Chairman of the University of British Columbia, the Vancouver Stock Exchange, BC Place Corporation (Crown Corporation) and BC Enterprise Corporation (Crown Corporation). He was also the Vice Chairman of Expo 86 Corporation. He is currently on the Board of Trustees for the Fraser Institute and is a member of the World Presidents Organization. Peter has recently been appointed by the Federal Government as a Director and Member of the Finance Committee for VANOC (Vancouver 2010 Olympic & Para Olympic Games).

Peter is a recipient of many honours and awards, including the BC Chamber of Commerce Businessman of the Year. In January 2003, he received a Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth recognizing his community service. In June 2003, he was awarded the Order of British Columbia recognizing his fundraising efforts for various charities and organizations in BC as well as the vital role he has played in financing hundreds of BC businesses. In the spring of 2005, Peter received an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of British Columbia.

Peter has been a strong supporter of St. George's School for many years, serving as a Governor of the School and Trustee of the Foundation. He has endowed the Alan Brown '54 and Madge Brown Legacy Fund, a major financial aid fund for students entering the Senior School. Peter's two sons, James '86 and Jason '89 attended St. George's School, as have his brothers Ralph '53, Alan '54 (past Headmaster), and Robert '68.
