Truth And Reconciliation Day
As Orange Shirt Day and Truth and Reconciliation Day approached this week, students were introduced to the concept of allyship during their Advisory Sessions. These ways of demonstrating allyship include but are not limited to encouraging cultural competency, studying Indigenous history, and challenging stereotypes. Led by the Community and Engagement Portfolio, each Advisory Group was given a paper orange shirt. Then they were asked to write down commitments that they would make to display their journey to allyship. These paper orange shirts have then been hung around the school, and the student community will revisit their commitments in June and hold each other accountable.

Future Reporting & Learning Conferences
Thank you again for joining us for
Meet The Teacher Evening last week. Meet The Teacher Evening, Learning Conferences, and Progress Reports are our school-wide learning communication opportunities. Our aim of these events is to create opportunities to learn about your child, provide high-quality feedback on student progress towards learning outcomes, highlight areas of strength and resilience, and stimulate and support dialogue about student performance and progress. Please note the upcoming scheduled opportunities.

Outside of these scheduled opportunities, families are warmly welcome to get in touch with their child’s teachers, advisors, and coaches directly at any time.

Emergency Preparedness
As part of the ongoing safety of our students and staff, the Senior School participates in a number of drills throughout the year. There are three main drills that occur during the year: Evacuation Drills; Drop-Cover-Hold; and Lockdown Drills. Evacuation procedures are necessary to ensure students can evacuate the school in a safe and efficient manner and gather with their Advisory Groups. Drop-cover-hold drills are conducted to prepare students for a potential earthquake, including how to assess the situation, evacuate safely, and gather with Advisory Groups. Lastly, the School is required to conduct lockdown drills that ensure that students are aware of the procedure if they must remain within the school or within a classroom.

Career Life Education Team — Grade 10
Work Shadowing Program At St. George's School
The Career Life Education Team is seeking to create an opportunity for our Grade 10 students to gain invaluable insights into the world of employment. This program will support the learning outcomes for the Career Life Education CLE 10 Ministry Course, which includes:
- Engaging in real conversations about potential careers.
- Learning about the workplace environment.
- Connecting with personal and professional mentors.
- Demonstrate and understand workplace safety skills.
- Expand knowledge of diverse career pathways to inform choices.
Our students tell us that one of the most important things they need is connections to people with expertise outside of the classroom. They want to engage in conversations with people who have already been on their career journey, and observe and connect people in career fields they are considering, or may not have thought about yet. We have many students in Grade 10 who have no idea what their path will be. This opportunity for the students to visit and talk with people will help them feel more confident about their next steps.
Can You Help Us?
Vision For The Student Visits
During our Flex Days on Thursdays, we are hoping to send out the whole Grade 10 class for two days of work shadowing with a local employer. We are reaching out to our parent and alumni communities, our neighbours, and local organizations. Ideally, we would like to place a group of students in the same location, where possible.
We are seeking spaces for approximately 160 students on the following days:
- Thursday, March 6, 2025
- Thursday, April 10, 2025
Visiting Students Will Be Looking To:
- experience what a typical workday looks and feels like.
- connect with employees to discuss the company, industry, and career pathways.
- learn about the education and career-life journey of employees.
- understand workplace safety skills, emergency procedures as well as workplace rights and responsibilities.
Students will be tasked with questions to find answers to as they complete related assignments associated with their Career Life Education 10 Ministry Program.
All employers supporting this program will be invited to a Virtual Orientation and will have support from St. George’s teachers throughout the process.

Thank You For Attending
The Canadian Universities Fair!
Last week’s Canadian University Fair, organized and hosted by the St. George’s University Counselling Department, was an incredible success! Held at the Senior School campus, the Fair featured close to 50 diverse post-secondary institutions from across Canada and was attended by over 1,300 students from both our own School and many of our affiliates. Students had the opportunity to learn about individual universities, engage with Admissions representatives, and gather informational material to further read at their leisure.
The Fair marked the first time St. George’s School held this event, which proved to be a wonderful educational opportunity to expose our Grade 10-12 students to the exciting range of post-secondary options that Canada offers.
The event would never have been possible without the help of our team of Grade 11 and 12 student volunteers. A heartfelt thank you to Matthew O’Leary ‘25 for leading this team and for his meticulous organization and vision!
