2021 Hamper Drive

Mr. David Young

Here at St. George’s School, we are in service of ‘Building Fine Young Men’. We believe the evidence of our success at that task is that, wherever their paths take them, our Grads will look around their community to see where they can make a positive difference.

A critical component along the path towards being a good man is that our boys see us model that mindset for them. For that reason, I am excited to launch the 2021 St. George’s Hamper Drive and to experience it myself for the first time.
For nearly 50 years, the Hamper Drive has been a defining fixture of our school community, providing an opportunity for us all to come together as role models for our boys and to let them experience our support of our greater community. It remains one of our most widely-supported events, even as it has grown and evolved over the years.
Through our partner schools and community organizations within Vancouver, the Hamper Drive assists families through the critical time over Winter Break when school food programs are unavailable. In the past, with guidance from our partner agencies, we gathered food, toys, and household goods, curated them for specific families’ needs, and then packed and delivered hampers to each family.

Last year significantly affected the way in which we could support these families. And yet, wonderfully, Saints rose to the challenge, and, although we were unable to create hampers, the impact our community made was significant.

As we begin to emerge from the restrictions of last year, we are able to engage a little more fully in our Hamper Drive this year. Our planning committee is committed to ensuring it continues to thrive. We will again supply gift cards instead of food and toys, and the students will be able to collect household goods for small care packages for each family. Boys will still have the opportunity to learn about food insecurity, its causes, and how it affects peoples’ lives.

Our ability to step into this opportunity with each other and with our boys is important. The partners we work with depend on our support and the families our hampers reach benefit from our endeavour.
Thank you for your support.
