Senior School AuditoriumWe are the most informed generation of parents that have ever walked the planet, yet we are raising children with rising rates of stress, obesity, diabetes, and mental illness. Medical history was recently made when being from a higher socioeconomic class was cited as a risk factor for adolescent anxiety, depression, and substance use. Dr. Shimi Kang has witnessed firsthand how today’s trend of over-scheduling and overprotecting are seriously underpreparing our children for real life and standing in the way of their self-motivation.
Shimi will provide a compelling guide to the art and science of inspiring children to develop their own internal drive and a lifelong love of learning. Drawing on the latest neuroscience and behavioral research, Shimi proposes a powerful new parenting metaphor: the intelligent, joyful, and highly social dolphin. Dolphins are not authoritarian tiger parents who push and hover, nor are they permissive jellyfish parents. Dolphin parents use balance to guide their children towards self-motivation.
