Tennis is a very popular sport at St. George’s. The love of the game is evident among faculty and students alike. Senior school students of all ages can join either the beginner tennis program, or be selected for the competitive team program.
The beginner classes are designed to teach students how to rally, serve, and keep score. Competitive classes further refine these foundational skills, and equip students to compete. Both teams train twice weekly, coached by our resident pro, Mr. Gerry Macken, along with the help of two faculty managers. There is also coaching available for Junior and Senior school staff, and these lessons are very well attended.
St. George’s tennis has an excellent competitive record, where students regularly succeed at regional tournaments and carry on to compete at a national level. The competitive squad goes on tour at least once a year to play against other schools in Canada and the USA, giving students the opportunity to meet new people who share their interest in tennis.
Old boys have successfully used their tennis skills to apply for scholarships to universities throughout North America.
