Too busy during the week to send a lunch with your son? Are you expecting to be away on a particular date and need to make arrangements for your son's lunch? Does your son want to be on the dining room Hot Lunch Program but is on the waiting list because of full capacity? We can help!

The Junior School Bagged Lunch Program is meant for students who are currently on the waiting list for the Junior School Hot Lunch Program or who just want a meal program that is quick, delicious, nutritious and environmentally friendly! 

Each bag will consist of the special entrée of the day, a tetra boxed beverage, a fruit or vegetable, a dessert, and compostable cutlery and napkins. Daily specials will either be the hot entrée of the day that is served on the Junior School Hot Lunch Program. 

Here’s how it works

Yearly enrollment:

Enroll online (June 1 to September 21, 2018) for service for the whole school year by filling out the one-time yearly order form. Please make sure your son wants this as this is a full year commitment to the program. If you are unsure, you can still order bagged lunches on a monthly basis on the website (see information below). Yearly enrollment can be paid upfront with a one-time payment or you can also choose the installment plan that will come out of your account at the beginning of each school term. 

Monthly enrollment:

After the deadline for yearly ordering (September 21, 2018), the yearly enrollment option will NOT be available. However, there is still good news because there will be a monthly order form posted on the website. Monthly orders are due the last Wednesday PRIOR to the delivery month (i.e. October’s orders would be due Wednesday, September 26, 2018, and November’s orders would be due Wednesday, October 31, 2018, and so forth.) See the deadline chart below. 

To order monthly, you will have to order for a whole school week of lunches. For example: If you would like to order for the last week in October, you will have to order lunch for all days of October 22–26, 2018. This will be charged monthly and will be at a cost of $9.25 per day and charges depends on the amount of operational days in the week. Some weeks are shorter for days when there is holidays, early dismissal, or Pro-D days. See the FAQ section for more information.

Occasional last minute emergency orders:

Because we know that life happens, there may be the need for emergency orders where a student may not have food for lunch for situations where they may have forgotten it at home or other reasons. We definitely do not want a child to go without food for the day so parents can simply call the Food Services Department at 604-222-5805 to place a last minute order with the kitchen. This will need to be ordered either by the parent, guardian, or an SGS staff or faculty member that approves payment to the student account number. Charges will be at a cost of $9.25 per lunch order. 

Once you have placed your order, the Sodexo Food Services team will have your son’s orders ready for him at the beginning of the lunch period (11:30 am) in the dining room kitchen servery which is located on the 1st floor of the school. We will have a food service attendant to help out with handing the bags out and if your son has any questions please tell them to ask for Ms. Gaudiel Davis or Chef Jay.

  • How do charges work?

    YEARLY ENROLLMENT: A one time charge of $1335 for the year would be billed on your student billing once your completed form has been submitted. If you choose to pay by term, the instalments will be billed as follows: 1st term upon enrollment, 2nd term will be billed in December and the 3rd term would be billed in April. The commitment is for the full year regardless of whether you choose the full year payment plan or the 3 term payment plan.

    MONTHLY ENROLLMENT: Your account will be billed the month after your order month. For example, if you ordered lunches in April, you can expect to receive your bill in May. Billing all depends on how many operation school days are in the week. Days vary depending on holidays, school closures, early dismissals etc. 3 Day week= $27.75, 4 day week= $37.00, 5 day week = $46.25
  • What if my son is part of a club or groups that will take field trips offsite?

    Students that are a part of clubs, academic groups where bagged lunches are ordered by their teacher/club leader for offsite trips must be responsible for informing their teacher to alert the Food Services Department when they are absent at least 72 hours prior to their departure so that there are no duplicate bags made and wasted.
  • When do I enroll?

    Enrollment period will be from June 4 to September 21, 2018. Please enroll your son for the Bagged Lunch Program
  • What if my son ends up getting into the Dining Hall Hot Lunch program during the year?

    If you get into the hot meal program, then please let us know and we will transfer your son’s/your status to the hot lunch program.
  • My son has a severe allergy. Can this program work for him?

    It is the responsibility of the parents to alert the Food Services Department AND the Health Department of any allergies or restrictions.

    Any students that have restrictions or allergies will be given an alternative to the posted menu.
     
  • If my son cannot make it downstairs, can his friend pick it up?

    Bagged lunches will only be given to the participant who’s name is on the bag or their teacher/club leader. If you know in advance that your son will be busy on this day to pick up his lunch, you can call down to the kitchen line and alert that he will be late picking up his meal. They can then set it aside. Otherwise, the only other person that is eligible to pick up his lunch is his teacher.
  • When and where are the bags picked up?

    Pick up times:
    11:30 am Junior School - 1st floor dining room by elevator

    If you are lost - look for anybody in a white and red uniform that says “Sodexo”.
  • What is in the bag?

    This year, we have actually changed to a compostable box which reduces the amount of disposables we use!

  • I take pride in practicing healthy and environmentally sustainable practices with my son at home. I hope to continue these practices at his school. Can you tell me what you practice in regards to these subjects when it comes to the bagged lunch program?

    Sodexo and St. George’s School is committed to serving healthy options to our students and the SGS community for all meals.

    For the bagged lunch program at St. George’s School, these are just some of the practices we follow in regards to being environmentally friendly:
    • compost program is in effect where we have bins that get taken away to turn the waste into reusable compost
    • compostable paper wrap and/or paper boxes for our entrees
    • unless we do a prepackaged item (i.e. granola bar), everything in the box is compostable
    • wooden cutlery that is compostable
    • recycled napkins that are not dyed white and compostable
    • 100% fruit juice tetra pak that is recyclable

    We have compost bins in the dining room server. We know that once the bags leave the dining room, they get brought to where ever it is that your son will eat.

    Please remind your son to make sure he takes note of where the green compost bins are located in the school so that they make it to the green bins.
