What is personal counselling?

Personal counselling is a support system through which a collaborative, supportive, and a confidential relationship is formed between a student and a counsellor in order to assist the student in making decisions that will lead to positive outcomes.

How do students know if they should see a counsellor?

If you are dealing with challenges in your life and you are feeling overwhelmed with few pressure outlets, then it may be helpful to seek the support of a counsellor.

Some signs to watch for include:

  • Feeling helpless and sad over a prolonged period of time.
  • Your relationships with family and friends are deteriorating as a result of your actions and behaviour.
  • You may find yourself losing patience quite easily, personal relationships are deteriorating, growing disinterest in connecting with family and friends, and excessive use of drugs and alcohol.
  • Routine daily initiatives are becoming mundane and trying. You may not be attending classes regularly, completing assignments, or concentrating as well as you usually do.

How do I arrange for counselling services?

Services are offered by appointment through your grade counsellor.
