A tradition of excellence
For over 80 years, there has been a tradition of excellence in sports at St. George's School. We remain to be one of the only schools in the country to have a compulsory
sports program for all students. The Games Program is designed to reinforce character education as a cornerstone of a St. George’s education, and also gives faculty the opportunity to interact with students outside the classroom. Engagement in this program is often a highlight of a boy’s time at St. George’s School.
Teachers dedicate their time to make activities a success and build on developments from one year to the next. We offer countless competitive and recreational activities.
The three terms of sport match with the academic terms; Fall, Winter, and Spring with Term 1, Term 2, and Term 3. Competitive athletic accomplishments are regularly recognized at assemblies where boys receive pins and letters of commendation for efforts of excellence. School spirit is fostered through strong fan support at many of our home games and many competitive teams tours to other cities, provinces, and countries to round out this athletic experience. Touring certainly adds to the School’s commitment to developing boys of the World.
For Grade 8–10 boys, games activity involvement is a requirement in each school term whereas Grade 11 and 12 boys can apply to have one term off. The activities run at various days and times before and/or after the academic day, attendance to each session is mandatory and all activities run for at least 2.5hrs per week.
The Games Program’s goal is to provide enjoyable activities in order to keep students active, inspire the values of teamwork, create leadership opportunities, build confidence, enhance their working memories, and underline the importance of exercise in their daily lives.
