The Learning Support Department at St. George’s Senior School is comprised of Resource and English Language Learning. We are committed to supporting all of our learners by helping them strengthen not only their academic skills, but also fostering their social-emotional growth in accordance with the school’s guiding principles.

Resource Program

The Resource program employs a student-centered approach that helps identify and implement interventions for students with identified learning challenges. In addition, the Resource team provides drop-in support for students to augment academic skills. The fundamental goals of the Resource program include:

  • Identify, through the referral process, at-risk students who may need academic support
  • Develop and implement interventions through the IEP (Individual Education Plan) process to support student learning
  • Work with faculty, parents, and outside professionals in supporting the specific needs of individual students
  • Cultivate academic and social skills for life-long learning

English Language Learning

English Language Learning classes exist at St. George’s School to provide emergent and specialized support for small cohorts of boys who require additional individual and small-group exposure to the full range of English language communication skills, across the subject areas.

Key goals include:

  • to provide a boy-centered program that is varied and engaging, where direct language instruction, differentiation and curriculum adaptation is embedded within a culturally inclusive environment;

  • to support boys in their learning across their subject areas and to monitor overall school involvement as new intake enter our community, particularly as members of Residential Life;

  • to scaffold boys in their learning to assist engagement toward higher level creative and critical thinking skills, expressed through the English language.
