Chris Owen '78

-Financial advice
As a proud fifth-generation Vancouverite, born and bred here, Chris is extremely proud to say, “My two grown children are sixth-generation Vancouverites and my grandchild is a seventh!”

Following graduation from St George’s School in Vancouver, Chris attended Queens University in Kingston, Ont, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree.

Chris brings to Haywood Securities over 30 years of experience in the investment industry, which included a six year period in London, England, where he dealt with European institutional investors.  The last 20 years have been spent in Vancouver dealing with institutional investors in western Canada and the western US.

Chris also served as Chair of Fundraising for the Vancouver NPA through three successful civic elections, and Chair of Fundraising for the BC Liberal Party through two successful provincial elections. Additionally, Chris served on the Board of Directors for St George’s School for six years.

The focus of Chris’s practice is two-fold:  First, he specializes in the investment of reserve funds for not-for-profit clients such as municipalities, unions, private institutions, associations, charities, and both public and private foundations.   Second, Chris has developed a number of specific asset planning and wealth management strategies for qualified, high net worth individuals.

A special, unique focus of Chris’s practice is his emphasis on special situation growth securities, where he takes a much disciplined approach to uncovering:  (1) Shares of companies that are either overlooked or represent good value or those on the verge of achieving meaningful milestones;  (2) Management is screened and must have their interests aligned with that of shareholders, and must always be only-one-call away
An extremely client-centered Investment Advisor, Chris prides himself on being both a firm believer of open communication and 24-hour accessibility.  Should there be anything else you would like to know about Chris Owen, feel free to call or email him to arrange a conversation or an appointment.
