Hamper Drive – How you can help!

December 16, 2018
The Hamper Drive embodies all of our School’s best attributes.  Among other things, it builds on our strong sense of community and provides us with an opportunity to reach out to others beyond our campus.  In recent years, we have worked hard to involve the boys more fully and more directly in every aspect of Hamper Drive, and we have embedded a more formal curriculum around food security and poverty in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

Every year, there are poignant examples of individuals going ‘above and beyond the call of duty’ in support of the Hamper Drive.  Recently, in the office of Mr. Gary Kern, Senior School Principal, I noticed a large plastic bag full of brightly coloured hand-knitted toques.  When I asked about them, Gary explained that the 41 toques had been knitted by one of our neighbours, a 92 year old woman, who has donated her toques to the Hamper Drive for a number of years.  As you can see in the photograph below, the toques are beautiful and reflect one caring individual’s commitment to helping our less fortunate neighbours.

In recent days, I have been asked by a number of Old Boys, parents, neighbours and students what they can do to help the Hamper Drive.  At this stage in the process, we are most in need of volunteers able and willing to deliver hampers on Saturday, December 22nd beginning at 8:30 am and concluding around noon.  In order to sign up for a particular delivery, click here.
