Hamper Drive Information

A Significant Tradition: The Hamper Drive

The most significant Christmas tradition here at St. George’s School is our annual Hamper Drive, through which we deliver more than 250 hampers to disadvantaged families in Vancouver. Hampers include food and household items, as well as toys for the children and, are designed to support these low-income families through the holiday season, which is a particularly challenging time because their children are unable to access school-based meal programs.

Hamper Assembly Day will take place on Friday, December 21 and needs volunteers to check hampers and add all of the required components.

Hamper Delivery Day will take place on Saturday, December 22 and we will need many volunteers to load vehicles and deliver the hampers that are created by our students for families in need.

Students have a significant impact on the Hamper Drive. Each Homeroom in the Junior School adopts three families, and each Advisor Group in the Senior School adopts two. All students contribute to their adopted families in some way. The weeks before Winter Break are filled with Hamper Drive related activities as the collection of non-perishable items and toys is completed in homeroom and advisor sessions.
We also need approximately 50 volunteers to adopt a family and collect non-perishable food items, select toys, and create a personalized card for them. If you would like to adopt a family to support with a hamper, these families can be adopted online.

Delivering a hamper is an excellent way to contribute, and the emotion displayed by the adopted families is often unforgettable. Families can also volunteer for specific roles on Hamper Assembly Day and Hamper Delivery Day, such as assisting with produce box assembly. Delivery registration will open in early December and volunteer registration will open on December 1; more information will be available closer to those dates.

There will be even more opportunities for parents and other members of the St. George’s community to get involved in a meaningful way. Additional details and more information on how you and your family can help will be available on the website over the coming weeks.
