Typical Day

A typical day as a residential life student at St. George’s is busy!  Breakfast is served in our cafeteria each morning from 7:00 am – 8:00 am.  Students can choose hot or cold options each morning before heading to school.  It is a short walk of three blocks from Harker Hall, on the Junior School Campus, to the Senior School Campus, where classes are held.  School starts at 8:30 am each day and consists of four periods that are 75 minutes long.  On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, there is an assembly or time set aside for students to meet with their academic advisor after the first period.  A snack is provided in McLean Hall, the dining hall at the senior school, during the morning break.  Lunch is served, again in McLean Hall, after third period.  Lunch time is a common meeting time for the many clubs offered at the school.  The school day ends at 3:15 pm and students return to Harker Hall or head off to their after-school sports choice.

Evenings in Harker Hall begin with dinner from 5:30 – 6:30 pm and then a floor meeting at 6:45 pm for announcements and attendance.  From 7:00 – 8:30 pm is study hours in residence and students are able to work quietly in their rooms or collaboratively with other students in one of the common rooms or small meeting rooms available for project work and group study.  After study, students have some free time prior to bed time, which varies based on grade.  Houseparents work in Harker Hall each evening on each of the floors to help students and supervise in the residence.
