Hosted by St. George’s School, Vancouver Model United Nations (VMUN) is an annual student-run conference held in the beautiful city of Vancouver, British Columbia. Since its inception in 2002, VMUN has grown into Canada’s premier Model UN experience for high school students, with nearly 1,200 delegates in attendance last year from throughout North America and beyond.
VMUN aims to connect students to the challenges that confront modern society and inspire them to think about the world from new perspectives. The cornerstones of VMUN’s philosophy are a professional and approachable staff, an atmosphere of realism, and a high quality of debate. Delegates are provided with the opportunity to discuss, debate, and resolve relevant and contentious issues, and are offered as wide a variety of committees as possible to reflect the diversity and complexity of the world today.
Moreover, each year, a key figure in Canadian and international politics is invited to talk about their experiences at the Opening Ceremonies. Past keynote speakers have included prominent humanitarian and journalist Amanda Lindhout, Wine to Water Founder Doc Hendley, the Hon. Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (then an MP).
