The Hamper Drive: Why We Give

By Kieran French ‘22 (School Captain), Tobias Ezekiel ‘24, William Hou ‘25

The Hamper Drive is an annual event that means something different to each individual involved in the process. Delivering a hamper and witnessing the impact of our community’s generosity is what initially prompted our involvement.

Each year, as we contributed more and more to the Hamper Drive, its effect became crystal clear to us. Because of this, it was near-impossible for us to not want to get more involved. These acts of kindness strengthen the St. George’s Community by involving all our members. The Hamper Drive allows us to become more empathetic human beings while we learn about the struggles of others living in Vancouver. It  provides us with a platform to take action by lending a helping hand to the many vulnerable families in our community, an experience for which we are especially grateful. Recognizing our own fortunate circumstances, being able to give our time to plan and organize something of utmost importance to the wider community, and then seeing it finally come to fruition, is a remarkable feeling. It gives us a very real appreciation of our ability to make a positive difference that also builds character within Saints students and melds the community as one.  It changes the lives of countless families in our city, which is paramount to us.

Over the next couple of weeks there will be several initiatives in which students can participate; their involvement is essential. Whether students are listening to a speaker in Assembly, discussing Hamper Drive related topics in advisor and homeroom sessions, or attending a lunch-time activity, we hope the importance of the Hamper Drive resonates with them. Senior School students should check the Canvas Student Life page so they don’t miss out on any special events! Junior School students already have many exciting events underway!'

Our goal is to have ALL students involved with the event this year so everyone feels their ability to make a positive difference. We can’t wait to see your hard work pay off!
Thank you for supporting the Hamper Drive - your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated.
