St. George's Junior School Cross Country program is open to all Grade 3 to 7 boys. Typically, the team draws 60-70 athletes to practices and meets over the course of the season. The program stretches over seven weeks, from the second week in September to the last week of October. Cross Country running develops a strong endurance base which greatly contributes to success in other sports.
During the season, the boys have the opportunity to compete in up to five different meets. Most of the meets take place on the weekend in various locations all over the Lower Mainland. The final meet is the ISEA Championships and the boys are selected to this team based on the criteria of (1) competitiveness, (2) attendance at other meets, and (3) attendance at practices. Practices are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:10 – 7:50 am.
Every runner on the team must have the Saints Junior School Cross Country and Track and Field competition outfit (red and white singlet; black shorts). Both items are available at the school store
Every runner on the team must have a Saints' tracksuit. These are to be worn to the meets and during warm-ups. The tracksuits are available at the school store.
It is important to invest in a quality pair of running shoes. In addition, many cross country runners race in middle distance track spikes.
