About the Hamper Drive
For nearly 50 years, the annual Hamper Drive has been a significant and beloved tradition at St. George’s School. Organized by students, with support from faculty and staff, more than 260 hampers are delivered to Vancouver families in financial need. Hampers include food and household items, as well as toys for the children, and are designed to support low-income families through the holiday season.
We need your support
2020 has presented all of us with immense challenges when it comes to how we can be together safely, and running the Hamper Drive is no exception. Over the past number of weeks, a dedicated committee of staff and students has been meeting to determine how to fulfill the key mission of the Hamper Drive: to support families in need.
The Hamper Drive will look different this year, but what remains the same is the need for us to work together as a community, to reflect on how fortunate we are, and to pledge our commitment to support Vancouver families during the holiday season.
For this year, we have moved to a model based on hamper adoption and other financial donations. In both cases, these contributions will go towards purchasing gift cards to allow recipient families to choose the food, household items, and gifts that best suit their needs. Almost all of the agencies indicated that this is their preference regardless of COVID as it affords the families a sense of agency and ownership.
How you can help
- Adopt a family: Commit to providing a donation that will provide a family’s hamper. The cost ranges from $250 to $400, depending on the size of the family.
- Make a financial contribution: If you don’t feel that you are able to support the full cost of a hamper, any amount will help us reach our goal of supporting Vancouver families. Please note, we issue tax receipts for all gifts in excess of $25.
With your assistance, we can bring a little joy to those in need during the holiday season and truly make a difference.
